A Thought for my Readers

I have lost a couple of readers who subscribe via Feedblitz recently (because I’m back into stamping!!! 😉 ) and I thought I would make my annual plug for Google Reader. I lost my subscribers because I tend to post several times a day and that means you get several e-mails every day if you use Feedblitz. I’m sorry, I just CAN’T wait until the end of the day to post everything all at once. I promise I will try from now on to post once, at the end of the day (but that means sometimes I will put things on SCS before they’re on here), but just in case, read the following.

While Feedblitz flatters me and my blog because we can all see how many subscribers I have, I PERSONALLY don’t use it to subscribe to others blogs. I use Google Reader because I simple click on my Reader link and then every blog I subscribe to is listed there and next to each blog’s name is a number that indicates the number of new posts. You just click on the blogs name and it lets you read the new posts (and old too).

The only disadvantage I’ve found to Reader is that it doesn’t show you the actual blog page unless you click on the blog title or post title. That means you don’t get to see anything that the author has in their sidebar. BUT, I like it and even prefer it to Feedblitz. No e-mails clogging my inbox when authors have multiple posts a day.

So, if you choose to unsubscribe I totally understand, just please let me know why. I hope that this info about Reader helps you to still be able to access my blog when it is updated. That’s why I love it! I don’t have to check every blog I like every day just to know if there is a new post.

Take care, and have a great night!

ETA: Read Nancy’s awesome tip in the comments section of this post!!!! Thanks Nancy!

Happy Mother’s day to you! I don’t post on Sundays much, so I thought I would go ahead and say it. Whether you are a mother, have one, or will be one, there is always someone that you can give a motherly influence to that needs that kind of love and care. There are many children (and adults) that need a little bit of compassion that only a woman can give – a kind word, a smile, a hug, a small act of kindness, or even a big act of kindness. Always keep your eyes and your heart open to others around you and you will have an influence that no one else can. I hope your Mother’s day is a wonderful one!!!

I am so whiney….

As I sat here and looked at the sweet comments everyone left for my post explaining my hectic life, I felt like a whiner. Granted, I’ve only seen my husband for 2 weeks since the beginning of the year, but at least he’s safe and sound and not getting shot at. At least it has only been 4 months, not the typical minimum of 6 most Air Force service men and women endure separated from their families (we’re lucky, pilots are “typically” deployed even less than that, but they are still gone on VERY frequent 2-3 week TDY’s even though they’re not actually “deployed”), and THAT is far less than our brothers and sisters in the Army endure. Those men and women can go for 1.5 years at a time, and they’re given these little R-and-R trips back home for a few days and that’s supposed to be good enough to give them their fix of their loved ones before they’re back in the desert getting shot at. So….while I don’t mean to minimize what my husband does, or even what I did for my short time in the USAF myself, I realize that I really am not sacrificing a lot right now. I wish for my children’s sakes that we hadn’t been apart this long, but so does the Army wife who’s husband is gone for an 18 month deployment, only to find out he’s been “extended” to stay there a bit longer. I know how blessed I am, and I guess the reason why I was whining is because military or not, it is hard being a “single” parent. I don’t know how ANYONE can do it. I don’t get any time for me, and so the selfish person inside of me is what caused the whining. With that, I will bid you a good evening, thank you for your kind words, and promise to be more aware of all that I have been blessed with rather than writing on here to, perhaps subconciously, recieve those words of pity that will make me feel better and more justified for my whining. I’m glad that they didn’t, that they made me realize just how good I’ve got it! I would like to thank all of our honorable service members who are sacrificing for this country with their time, talent, commitment and sadly their lives, so that we can all enjoy the wonderful freedoms that we are so accustomed to in this country. Let us never forget how we got them! Have a great night!!!!

Saturdays were “supposed” to be my recipe day, but that didn’t ever happen, so here’s a card I made. I’ve got lots to do today before we leave for a District Conference for our church and some leadership training my husband and I have to attend before the actual conference session tonight. There’s also a session tomorrow so we’ll be spending the night there in Eagle Pass. Hopefully it will be some fun too! My sponsor-sister from my days at the Air Force Academy just happens to be TDY in San Antonio this whole weekend so we’ll miss her today and part of tomorrow, but she’s going to come spend the night Sunday night and I’m super excited to see her. I probably won’t post on Monday since she’ll be here visiting but wish you all a very happy weekend and ask you to remember our troops on this Veteran’s Day holiday.

Stamps: Love & Joy
Paper: Always Artichoke, Certainly Celery, Whisper White and Wintergreen DS paper
Ink: Always Artichoke, Certainly Celery
Accessories: 3/4″ circle punch, photo corners punch, celery 5/8″ grosgrain, Stickles, dimensionals, Ice circle rhinestone brads (they’re the green ones)

For this card I wanted to use my new Wintergreen DS paper that I got, and I was also trying to use my new Photo Corners punch. I’m not sure how I like those photo corners. They are supposed to layer, I think, but my smaller piece doesn’t have a straight edge so unless I want it on there crooked, it shows part of the layer behind it on an edge. Is everyone’s like this?????? Should I send it back to SU!???? Anyway, I had fun making the card but I’m not sure what I think about it. Do you like it? Is the rock-and-rolled edges of Joy a little distracting, or does it look good? Can you even see the Stickles on the snowflake? Hmmm…just not sure about it. I would love to hear what you think. Take care!!!!

I should explain….

You all must think I’m stamping-deficient with my question in my last post. SO, I thought I’d let you know that I didn’t want to color on the stamp with my markers because there’s just the tiniest bit of a line (negative space) between the mane of the lion and the body. I thought that would take a long time to do ten time (for 10 cards). Also, I was worried about stroke marks being visible in the stamped image. BUT, I really liked the suggestion that TALIANA gave of coloring the mane first and then wiping off any smudges that perhaps got on the body part of the lion and then coloring his body. That just might work. I was thinking if I didn’t care about possible ink contamination, I could also ink up the lion in MM and then color his mane with my RR marker and then stamp. All the possibilities!!! Thanks so much for your suggestions, and next time I make a card with this stamp set I’ll definitely give some of them a try.

As for me not posting today (a card that is) – I’ve had a headache for 4 days now. Nothing too strong, but a nagging pain nonetheless, so I may need to call the clinic and try to get an appointment on base sometime soon. Until it goes away, I don’t see much stamping taking place. I’m sorry! Take care!

Blog Candy Winner!!!

So I used the random.org number generating program and got number 43. So, number 43 – give me your address by e-mailing me at mcclellans@stx.rr.com and your stuff will be on its way next week!! Ha ha, almost tricked ya, right? Did you think I was going to make everyone count? Well, I wasn’t. #43 is Tracy and here’s her comment:

This is probably a funny thing to look forward to but my baby is 7 weeks old now and I have received so many REALLY cute summer outfits…so the thing that I am most looking forward to is dressing him in them and going for walks!

AN UPDATE!!! If you read my post below, you’ll remember my ordering fiasco with Plaid. Well, as some of you suggested, the day after I placed the order, I called them. The representative said there was NOTHING that they could do. So, I figured, I’ll make something positive out of this and give them some very kind, constructive criticism. I basically said that they should put the true number of shipping days an item would take next to the shipping options so that when you select 2nd day air, you know it’s really 4 days, and that next day air is really 3 days, and so on. Well, I got an e-mail back and here’s what it said:

6/5/2007

Thank you for taking the time to send us your comments regarding our shipping policies. We have reviewed and forwarded them to the appropriate department for consideration in our development process.

We are very sorry for your unpleasant experience and will use the information you have provided to improve our products and services. We hope that you will give us another opportunity in the future to win you back as a customer.

Thank you for contacting Plaid,
DRI

You will NEVER guess what happened 2 hours later!!!! I got an e-mail saying that my order from Plaid had SHIPPED!!!! So, even though the message they sent me said nothing about helping me out, they did, or “someone” did. I will say that my prayers were definitely answered. The package with the paints and templates that I couldn’t buy (even paint was sold out at Wal-Mart!!!!) here in Del Rio because we don’t have the stores that sell that kind of thing got here the day of the farewell where we made the onesies. I will post a picture tomorrow. My in-laws are here and I need to go spend time with them instead of at the computer. I can’t wait to show you how cute they turned out, and maybe we’ll play a guessing game to see if you can spot which ones I did. I made two because there was a left-over onesie and we didn’t want to give her a plain one.

Anyway, congrats Tracy, e-mail me your address, and until Monday everyone – have a great weekend!!!
